Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has openly celebrated his nephew, Afrobeats superstar Davido, following his standout appearance at the globally renowned Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2026.

The governor’s excitement comes on the heels of Davido’s historic moment as the only African act on the festival’s official lineup this year. This feat continues to highlight the global reach of Nigerian music.
Performing on the Gobi Stage, Davido didn’t just deliver a setlist of hits—he brought a piece of home with him. In a symbolic move, he incorporated a traditional Yoruba oríkì, paying homage to his roots in Ede, Osun State. The cultural nod added a deeper layer to his performance, blending global sounds with indigenous identity.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Governor Adeleke shared a clip from the stage introduction, visibly proud of what the moment represented—not just for the Adeleke family, but for Osun State and its cultural heritage.
“Another proud moment. My nephew @davido is putting the family, our heritage, and state on the global map,” the governor posted.
Davido’s set was packed with crowd favourites, including Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, If, and With You, each track drawing strong reactions from the international audience.
The performance also featured a surprise moment, as Adekunle Gold joined him on stage for their collaborative hit High, adding even more energy to an already memorable outing.
For many observers, the night wasn’t just another festival appearance—it felt like a cultural statement, with Davido once again carrying the sound and spirit of Nigeria to a global stage.
