Waje- So Inspired
In ‘So Inspired‘, Waje tells the story of the challenges that women face and how she refuses to be seen as an inferior being, insisting that no man has the right to disrespect her for being a woman.

Wonder Woman- Yemi Alade
Yemi Alade or ‘Mama Africa’ as she is fondly called knows how to celebrate her African heritage in her songs. The Bilingual artist dedicated a song, ‘Wonder Woman’ to every female around the world.
She celebrates Motherhood, Working women and even names drop Michelle Obama and Beyonce.
‘Wonder Woman‘ is off her third studio album, ‘Black Magic‘.
Try Me- Tems
Tems gained prominence both locally and Internationally thanks to ‘Try Me‘. The sombre song talks about toxic relationships and trying to escape them.
Accompanied by the sound of strings and a light bass in the background, the late singer sings about being held back from truly growing, moving forward, and shining on her own terms.
Koroba- Tiwa Savage
‘Koroba’ means Bucket or basket in Yoruba. The song starts with the lyrics,
‘I no come this life to suffer, If I follow politician, You go hear am for paper, Them go call am prostitution’
In ‘Koroba‘, Tiwa Savage talks about the discrimination women face when dating a certain class of men. She addresses the issue of people insulting women for dating rich men and yet forgive men for stealing.
The singer advises women to be focused on securing the bag’. The song is off her 2020 album, ‘Celia‘.

Gentle Lady- Salawa Abeni
Ever before any of the songs on this list were released, Salawa Abeni had set the foundation for girl power songs.
Her music career in a male-dominated Fuji world was a struggle that she won. She’s the only woman in the Fuji genre that has gained widespread recognition and respect in Nigeria.
Salawa Abeni‘s career took off while most women musicians were struggling to be backup singers, back in the day.
To date, Salawa is still a well respected Fuji artiste, and it’s an undisputed fact. She’s not one of the boys, she’s a gentle lady.
