Fola shares the behind-the-scenes story of linking up with Wizkid, DJ Tunez and his surprise encounter with Davido

Fast-rising Afrobeats artist Fola has been living through the kind of whirlwind most emerging musicians only dream about, an unexpected chain of events that carried him from a surprise link-up with Davido to a life-changing studio session with Wizkid and DJ Tunez.
In a recent interview, Fola painted the picture with the kind of excitement only someone watching their destiny unfold can express. He recalled how, just the day before the interview, he crossed paths with Davido in the most unplanned way.
A short video he posted from their night out at the club caught fire online, turning what felt like a casual moment into a headline-worthy one.
But the real plot twist came soon after.
While he was in Bristol for an event, having left London only hours earlier, his phone rang. The voice on the other end greeted him with the familiar slang “Bad boy,” and for a split second, he thought it was a joke. It wasn’t. It was Wizkid’s team calling.
Fola’s excitement quickly collided with reality when he realized he was in the completely wrong city. In his words, “I need to be in the city with Big Wiz… I was so pained.” The fear of missing out on what could be a career-altering moment hit hard.
But Wizkid’s team told him to reach out once he was back in London, giving him a thread of hope to hold on to.
He raced back to the city the next day, heart full, expectations high. Then—silence. Days passed, and he began to wonder if the window had quietly closed. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, that one won’t change my life!’” he confessed, laughing at the panic he felt back then.
The message eventually came when he least expected it—right in the middle of a Chelsea vs. Fulham match. The text read, “My Burna say, ‘Studio tomorrow,’” which he explained was simply a reference to Wizkid.
He received a number to call, and the moment the person on the line responded with “Let me tell Wiz,” he knew everything was falling into place.
The next day, Fola stepped into the studio and finally stood face-to-face with Wizkid. Alongside DJ Tunez, they created what the interviewer described as “one of the biggest records in 2022 and five,” a moment Fola said will forever sit at the heart of his journey.
Reflecting on whether luck had anything to do with his rise, Fola didn’t hesitate. “I’ve put in the hard work, God just crowned the efforts,” he said.
His story unfolds like a testament to the unpredictable rhythm of the Nigerian music scene—where timing, persistence, and the courage to stay prepared can turn a single phone call into a breakthrough.
‘I saw OBO, then got a call that Big Wiz wanted me in the studio but I had already left London. I thought I’d missed it. Came back the next day and boom… ‘Studio tomorrow.’ I still doubted it till I walked in and saw Wizkid. We made the record.” — Fola
