Renowned Afrobeat artist Fireboy DML recently shed light on the tight-knit relationship within the YBNL record label, originally established by Nigerian music sensation Olamide.
During a recent interview with Max 102.3 FM Lagos on May 9, 2024, Fireboy discussed the prevalent camaraderie among YBNL artists, dispelling any notions of competition.
He emphasized the solidarity and encouragement that characterize their interactions, affirming that each artist remains focused on their personal journey, unaffected by simultaneous releases.
In a touching anecdote, Fireboy recounted how Olamide and fellow artist Asake once collaborated to help him with his hair styling, underscoring the familial bond shared among YBNL members.

He also shed light on why he and his fellow artist Rema chose collaboration over conflict, defying the expectations of fans.
He explained that they made the decision because they consider themselves “advanced.”
Speaking in an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Fireboy said, “Myself and Rema are the two leading [Afrobeats] artists of our generation. We came together and realised that instead of giving the fans what they want, which is beef, let’s collaborate. We are too advanced for this stuff.
