Falz reveals why he can never become a politician

Award-winning Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has reaffirmed his stance against ever delving into politics, despite being widely regarded as one of the nation’s most vocal celebrity activists.

In an interview with Pulse Nigeria following the release of his latest project, The Feast, the multi-talented entertainer firmly ruled out the possibility of ever running for public office or aligning with any political party.

“Politics, ke? No, it’s a big no. What’s my business with politics?” Falz responded pointedly when asked if he saw himself entering the political arena in the future.

According to the rapper, the traits required to thrive in politics do not align with his personality or values.

“I can never become a politician. I don’t think I’d ever be able to be one because being one requires some traits that I don’t possess, a lot of negative traits. Even some ‘normal’ traits, like being patient and always being ‘on’, I can’t do it,” he added.

Although Falz is often at the forefront of national conversations surrounding injustice, corruption, and human rights abuses, especially among Nigerian youth, he maintains that his activism stems purely from compassion, not political ambition.

Back in 2023, he explained his motivation: “Compassion, I just care and I cannot afford to witness everything I witness and not say anything and not do anything about it. It’s just the way that I’m built. Nobody is putting fire on my backside and telling me that I must do this or I must do that, it just comes.”

A trained lawyer and the son of renowned human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN), Falz has remained steadfast in using his platform to amplify social issues. From lending his voice during the #EndSARS movement to criticising poor governance through his music, the Soft Work crooner has solidified his place as a leading voice for the voiceless.

Despite his deep involvement in civic advocacy, Falz insists that there is a clear line between activism and politics one he has no intention of crossing.
