Falz Advocates for Unity, Says Africa Must Abandon ‘Every Man for Himself’ Mentality

Renowned Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has once again fused music with message as he prepares to unveil his latest project, The Feast. This time, the award-winning artist is focusing on the urgent need for a cultural shift toward communal thinking across Nigeria and the African continent.
In a recent interview with Naija FM, Falz—known for his bold socio-political commentary—revealed that the new body of work is centered on fostering a stronger sense of community among Africans. He emphasized that the prevailing mindset of individualism is a major obstacle to meaningful progress.
“The message I’m pushing across is ‘community.’ I feel like we need a sense of community because the mentality that we have in this country and in Africa is the ‘every man for himself’ one, and it’s not good,” he said.
Falz expressed concern that this self-serving attitude isn’t limited to the corridors of power, but has become embedded in society at all levels. According to him, the failure of leadership in many African nations reflects a deeper, collective problem.
“We constantly complain about how the government isn’t good. Why? Because the person in government would just get into power and steal money. So far he and his family are okay; he would care less about anyone else and that mentality is not okay,” the rapper explained.
He urged Nigerians and Africans to shift their focus from individual gain to shared growth, stressing that true development can only be achieved through unity and solidarity.
“We need to think about the collective, each and every person, and we need to be there for each other. The only way we can progress and reach our full potential as a continent is if we move together,” he added.
Speaking on the tone and style of The Feast, Falz noted that while the message is clear, the delivery is more nuanced than in some of his previous politically charged works.
“That’s the general message of my album, even though it’s not literal. It’s not as intense and direct as some of my other ones. With this one you need to sit and really listen,” he said.
Falz has remained a consistent voice in Nigeria’s music industry, using his platform to challenge societal issues and champion reform. With The Feast, he continues his tradition of socially impactful artistry, calling for a mindset shift that prioritizes collective well-being over personal gain.
