Falz reveals he may not raise his children in Nigeria

Nigerian rapper, actor, and outspoken activist Falz has shared a candid and deeply personal reflection on a question that resonates with many Nigerians today—would he raise his future children in Nigeria?
In a recent interview, the multi-talented artist was caught off guard when asked whether he would consider raising his kids in the country.
After pausing to reflect, Falz admitted he was unsure, citing concerns over insecurity, threats tied to his activism, and the general complacency of the populace.
“Ah! That’s a deep question. I didn’t expect to hear this question,” he said. “I haven’t really thought that far, let me not lie. But it’s something that I can’t actually say ‘yes’ to because of what we are talking about: insecurity in the country, threats due to my activism, and Nigerians’ docility.”
Falz, who has become a powerful voice for social justice through both his music and public commentary, emphasized that his uncertainty doesn’t come from a lack of patriotism. He described himself as “pro-Nigerian” and expressed hope that the country can still get things right.
“It’s something I cannot outrightly say ‘yes’ to. And it’s so sad. But I can’t also outrightly say ‘no’ because I’m pro-Nigerian and I really believe that we can actually get it right. But I don’t know, I don’t know, but let’s see.”

His remarks have sparked discussions across social media, particularly among young Nigerians who share similar fears about safety, governance, and the future of their families in the country.
As one of the leading voices of Nigeria’s new wave of conscious creatives, Falz’s honest admission underscores the emotional and psychological weight of navigating life and legacy in a country fraught with challenges — yet still rich in potential.
