Falz reveals what inspired his long-standing activism
Nigerian rapper Falz has revealed that his activism stems from his childhood and family legacy, shaping his conscious approach to music and social justice.
In a recent episode of the Menisms Podcast, Falz shared that his activism predates the 2020 ENDSARS protests, which many believed marked the beginning of his advocacy. Instead, he credited his upbringing and exposure to Fela Kuti’s music for inspiring his conscious approach.
Falz attributed his activism to his father, Femi Falana’s, decades-long commitment to social justice, emphasizing that his father’s selflessness and dedication to helping others had a profound impact on his life and inspired him to use his platform for good.
The rapper stressed that his activism is not a recent development, but rather a long-standing aspect of his identity. “I’ve always been conscious, and it’s always been there,” he said, highlighting his consistent commitment to social justice.
In other new, Falz opened up about his approach to self-care, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining happiness and well-being.
Speaking with Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro on her “Spa with Osas” show, Falz emphasized the importance of self-care to avoid burnout. When asked about how he takes care of himself, Falz stressed that he always indulges in activities that make him happy.
“I think self-care comes in a lot of different dimensions, so it’s caring for your mind, caring for your body, and caring for your spirit,” he began.
He continued, “For me, I would say that I try to soak myself in things that give me pleasure and put me at peace. Things that inspire me and keep me happy—you want to stay in a happy place; you don’t want to feel unhappy or like there is something missing.”
