‘Your claim to have the highest streams but your tour is losing’ – Davido’s manager Asa Asika, throws subtle shade at Wizkid

Asa Asika, the longtime manager of Afrobeats heavyweight David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has stirred online conversation after dropping what many see as a subtle dig at Wizkid.
The timing wasn’t lost on anyone. Wizkid has dominated headlines in recent days after reportedly crossing the ₦10 billion streams mark on Spotify, becoming the first African artist to hit that milestone.
The achievement sparked massive celebration among fans, with some boldly anointing him the “New Fela.” That comparison, however, didn’t sit well with Seun Kuti, who pushed back strongly and ignited a tense back-and-forth online.
Right in the middle of the noise, Asa Asika appeared to chime in—without naming names. On his Instagram Stories, he shared a post questioning the idea of measuring success solely by streaming numbers.
The message hinted that if streams alone truly define “winning,” then the struggles some artistes face with touring don’t quite add up.
To add context, Wizkid’s last major tour came after the release of Made In Lagos (Deluxe). He skipped touring for More Love, Less Ego, and his highly anticipated Morayo tour slated for 2025, was eventually cancelled.
Asa Asika drove his point home by posting a photo of American rapper and producer J. Cole, paired with the caption: “If the streams say you’re winni’, why your tours is losin’?” – J. Cole on birthday Blizzard’26.
As expected, the post quickly caught attention, fueling debates across social media about streams, touring power, and what truly defines success in today’s music industry.
