This gesture continues Davido’s tradition of giving back to society, a hallmark of his philanthropic efforts over the years. The donation also marks the first time the artist is explicitly supporting anti-drug initiatives.
This upcoming donation follows a series of impactful contributions from Davido. In November 2021, he donated ₦250 million to 292 orphanages across Nigeria in celebration of his 29th birthday.
Two years later, in July 2023, he allocated ₦237 million to over 400 orphanages. Earlier in 2024, his foundation, the David Adeleke Foundation, facilitated another ₦300 million donation to similar causes.
Interestingly, this announcement also signifies a significant public stance by Davido against drug abuse. This comes nearly a decade after he faced backlash in 2015 for the controversial depiction of hard drugs in his music video ‘Fans Mi,’ featuring Meek Mill.
Davido’s consistent philanthropy underscores his dedication to social causes, solidifying his role as not just a global music superstar but also a passionate advocate for positive change in Nigeria.
