Afrobeats superstar Davido has opened up about his hopes for his children’s future, revealing that he would rather see them build careers outside the entertainment industry.

The singer disclosed during a viral interview on The Breakfast Club, where he reflected on his personal journey and the challenges he faced while pursuing music.
According to Davido, his preference is rooted in his own experience before fame, a period he described as difficult, especially without full backing from his family at the time. He explained that he would rather his children explore opportunities within his father’s business empire than go through similar struggles.
When asked about his stance during the interview, the exchange unfolded this way:
“Do you want your kids to be in this industry or would you prefer your kids to work with grandpa?,” the interviewer asked.
“Omo, go and work with my dad. Every Christmas, my dad takes all the grandkids with him. And I could just see that upon all the things he has including multiple private jets and all that, his happiness is him seeing his grandchildren. And my father is single. So I just saw his happiness and I’m like meh, this is like what life is all about. My dad not wanting me in the entertainment really killed my joy until he saw that this boy is really adamant about doing this. I wouldn’t want to do that to my kids as well. My daughter is already singing and dancing,” he responded.
The music star noted that while his father’s initial resistance to his career choice affected him emotionally at the time, things eventually changed once his passion and determination became clear.
Even with his reservations, Davido made it clear that he would not stand in his children’s way if they decide to follow the same path. Instead, he says he would offer them the support he once wished he had, while still hoping they consider a different route.
