He’s just a friend, he can’t do anything – Davido replies Nigerians asking him to call Seyi Tinubu instead of calling out a police commissioner

Nigerian music superstar Davido has hit back at critics who questioned his stance on the political crisis in Osun State, particularly his public callout of the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Abba, despite his friendship with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
On the evening of February 17, 2025, Davido took to his social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), to call out the Osun State police chief over his handling of the escalating political tension in the state.
The conflict has been fueled by a dispute between the APC and PDP over the reinstatement of sacked local government chairmen, who were elected under the APC but had been removed from office by court rulings.
The situation reached a boiling point over the weekend when Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, the current governor of Osun, held a press conference urging President Tinubu to intervene in the crisis.
Adeleke alleged that Gboyega Oyetola, a minister and former governor of Osun, was using security forces to help reinstate the ousted APC chairmen, despite court rulings against them.
On Monday, February 17, violence erupted at several local government secretariats as the dismissed chairmen and their supporters clashed with PDP members, leading to gunfire and further escalation.
Amid the chaos, Davido posted on X, sharing videos of Osun residents resisting the forceful takeovers. He accused the police of failing to maintain law and order and criticized the state’s police chief for not intervening fairly.
“Men Mount,” Davido wrote, signalling his frustration with the ongoing situation.
In response to criticism from some Nigerians on X, who suggested that Davido should have asked Seyi Tinubu to address the issue rather than publicly targeting the police chief, Davido clarified his position.
The singer stated that while he and Seyi are friends, their relationship does not extend beyond that. He explained that just as Seyi’s father, President Bola Tinubu, is the democratically elected leader of the nation, his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is also the democratically elected governor of Osun State.
This exchange has drawn attention to the complexities of the political drama unfolding in Osun and Davido’s outspoken stance on the matter.
