Court fixes November 5 for the court hearing of suit against Tiwa Savage and Mavin Records filed by Danny Young.
Nigerian musician Ajibola Danldi filed a 205 million Naira lawsuit against fellow singer; Tiwatope savage for copyright infringement.
This lawsuit was filed on the 13th of February 2019. It is labeled FHC/L/CS/230/2019 and was pending before Justice Mohammed Liman. The court finally fixed the date to be November 5th, 2019.
Danny Young prayed the court for N205 million in damages against Tiwa Savage for allegedly, using his Musical work titled ‘One’ without lawful authority.
Danny, however, didn’t stop there, he also sued her record label as at then; Mavin records, which was founded by Don Jazzy.
He is also claiming N5 million as cost of action, as well as demanding an account for profits accrued to the defendants from the use of the infringing musical work.
Danny claimed that his, Creative Legal, sued Tiwa and her record label for allegedly unlawfully copying his (Danny Young’s) 2009 single,” Oju Ti won”, in her 2018 single titled “One”
Tiwa Savage’s song”One” was produced by Killertunez and co-written by Wale turner.
In a video posted on his Instagram page at the time, the singer made an effort to show similarities between the two records.
However, he was bashed by Tiwa’s fans who accused him of seeking attention.
Danny also claimed that he reached out to Tiwa Savage, but was snubbed by her. This caused him to take legal action.
For now, all we can do it wait for the trial.
However, it would have been much better if the issue was settled amicably at the earlier stage.
