    Chukwuka Ekweani, best known by his stage as Ckay, has declared that he opposes the notion of Afrobeats artists boasting about being superior to their contemporaries.

    He claimed that if all Nigerian musicians worked together to promote one another rather than making comparisons, they would all advance in their careers more.

    In a recent interview with VICE, CKay made this claim when discussing his music, the effect of Afrobeats, and its growth over the world.

    According to The ‘Love Nwantiti’ crooner, the Afrobeats genre is the new pop, and the culture can expand to become even more popular than it is already, much like how Hip Hop culture did.

    In his words;

    I think there always argument about the biggest this, the biggest that, when like we should always support each other and enjoy the music.

    Afrobeat is the new pop right now and I feel like kind of like the way Hip-Hop culture grew, Afrobeat culture can grow if we like come together and support each other.

    Talking about what the Western world needs to know about Afrobeat, the singer stated that people should know that Afrobeat is not just a trend to jump on but culture and heritage that has an origin.

    He stated that anyone who needs to get into Afrobeat needs to study the genre and where it comes from because it has a story behind it that inspires the lyrics of Afrobeat artists.
