American R&B star Chris Brown has been arrested by British authorities in connection with an alleged assault that took place in London over two years ago.

The 36-year-old singer, known for global hits such as “With You” and “Under The Influence,” was taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday, May 15, 2025, at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, where he had been lodged ahead of his upcoming UK performances.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Brown was apprehended “on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.” The arrest is linked to a violent incident that reportedly occurred in February 2023 at Tape nightclub in the upscale Mayfair district of London.
The alleged victim, music producer Abraham Diaw, claims in legal documents that Brown attacked him without provocation. He alleges that the singer struck him over the head with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila, knocking him unconscious.

The situation allegedly escalated further, with Brown said to have continued stomping on Diaw while he lay on the ground, resulting in serious injuries, including head lacerations and torn ligaments.
The incident has been under police investigation for months, with surveillance footage reportedly forming a key part of the case. Diaw had also filed a civil lawsuit earlier, accusing Brown of an unprovoked attack.
Brown’s arrest arrives just days before the kickoff of his highly anticipated “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, which includes multiple shows across the United Kingdom. It remains uncertain how the legal situation will impact the tour schedule or whether the artist will be released in time to perform.
As at the time of filing this report, representatives for Chris Brown had not issued any official statement regarding the arrest or the ongoing legal proceedings.
More updates are expected as the case develops.
