Charly Boy breaks his silence over the renaming of the bus stop that was formerly named after him to Olamide
Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has expressed displeasure over the recent renaming of the Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga, Lagos.
The bus stop, which now bears the name of Nigerian rap heavyweight Olamide “Badoo” Adedeji, was officially renamed by the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday, July 25, 2025, as part of a broader initiative to celebrate distinguished individuals from the community.
While the decision has been widely applauded—especially in recognition of Olamide’s massive influence and global success—Charly Boy has strongly condemned the move, calling it “silly and petty” in an interview with News Central.
“I have nothing against Olamide being honoured,” he stated. “But erasing my name from that landmark? That’s unnecessary. If this is about contributions to the community, go and verify—you can’t touch my records.”
Charly Boy argued that such decisions should not be made at the expense of individuals who have previously been acknowledged for their lasting impact on society. He insisted his legacy in Bariga remains significant and should not be undermined.
His comments have since sparked a heated discussion on social media, with some users supporting his stance on preserving legacies, while others believe Olamide’s achievements equally deserve public honour.
