Busta Rhymes charged with assaulting staff who was on the phone during work

Legendary rapper Busta Rhymes, born Trevor George Smith Jr., is facing legal trouble after being accused of assaulting his assistant, Dashiel Gables, in an incident that occurred on January 10, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York.
The altercation reportedly began when the 52-year-old rapper became upset that Gables was using his phone during work hours. The dispute escalated in the lobby of Gables’ apartment building in the Dumbo neighborhood, where Busta allegedly punched the 50-year-old assistant multiple times, leaving him with a swollen left eye.
Following the incident, Busta Rhymes reportedly fled the scene while Gables contacted emergency services. Gables was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
On January 14, the rapper voluntarily turned himself into authorities and was charged with assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 2, 2025, to face the charges.
This isn’t the first time Busta Rhymes has had legal issues. In 2006, he was arrested for third-degree assault after striking a man who spat on his car.
The following year, he faced charges of assaulting his former driver, which led to a six-month jail sentence. Additionally, in 2008, he was temporarily denied entry to the UK due to unresolved convictions.
Busta Rhymes, known for his iconic hits and electrifying performances, now faces new scrutiny as this case unfolds.
