Burna Boy starts the new year by dishing out dope singles as he keeps us anticipating his yet to be released album “Outside”.
Well, if you’ve been paying any attention, then you’ll know that dropping great singles and shining on features have actually been Burna Boy’s M.O. for most of 2017. That probably explains how he caught the attention of Grammy-nominated rock band, Fall Out Boy.
The band, most known for hits like “Uma Thurman” and “Dance Dance”, is set to drop their seventh studio album, Mania, in a couple of months. According to their recently released tracklist, Burna Boy is the only artiste set to be featured on that body of work.
The song, which will feature the “Rock Your Body” singer, is titled “Sunshine Riptide” and is the ninth track on the 10-track album. The collaboration is definitely an interesting one.
The album’s release coincides with the release of Burna Boy’s first single of 2018, the Lily Allen-assisted “Heaven’s Gate”. Between that incredible song and his stellar feature on Mania, Burna Boy continues to prove he is one of the most versatile Nigerian artists working.
As for Fall Out Boy, they continue their sonically adventurous streak on this versatile album. Their Burna Boy-assisted, reggae-flecked “Sunshine Riptide” is just another prime example of their admirable efforts to consistently diversify their sound.
Speaking with Rolling Stone about the album, band member, Pete Wentz, said:
“It feels like every once in awhile, you’ve gotta do a hard restart that clears the cache and erases the hard drive. I think that’s what [Mania] was – a big palette cleanse.”
About the evolution of their music and trying new sounds, he continued:
“I think we have to just move forward – that’s the goal of us (I don’t mean the band; I mean humans) – we just need to evolve.”
