Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has made it clear he isn’t interested in forcing anyone to be part of his fanbase, and if you’re struggling financially, he says he’s not looking for your follow either.

Speaking during a recent Instagram Live session, the Afro-fusion star addressed questions about his relationship with fans. Burna Boy stressed that support should come naturally, asking rhetorically: “I force anybody to be my fan?”

His comments come shortly after a viral incident at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, where he abruptly walked away from a couple who had reportedly fallen asleep during his set.

The moment highlighted something Burna Boy has long emphasised: he values genuine energy and loyalty over having the biggest crowd.

He also joked that if he were going to chase new supporters, he’d prefer people who “have money this period,” adding that “pepper dey body” is a nod to the economic strain many Nigerians are currently feeling.

Whether fans are rich or broke, Burna Boy’s message remains the same: in his world, vibes, loyalty, and real connection matter far more than numbers.

Recall, the woman who was asked to leave Burna Boy’s concert in the United States alongside her boyfriend has broken her silence, describing the experience as “embarrassing, humiliating, and deeply hurtful.”

In a video making rounds on social media, she explained that while she understands the superstar might have been trying to maintain the show’s energy, the situation could have been handled with more empathy, especially since he had no way of knowing the personal struggles she was facing.

She revealed that she has been emotionally, mentally, and physically drained following the recent passing of her daughter’s father, a loss that has left her trying to stay stable amidst grief.

According to her, the incident at the concert only added to her distress.

Despite the hurt, she emphasised her respect for Burna Boy as an artist but noted that the public dismissal left her feeling disrespected.
