Nigerian superstar Burna Boy continues to make waves far beyond Africa, and New Zealand has emerged as one of his most loyal strongholds.

The Port Harcourt-born artist recently added another milestone to his already impressive résumé, extending his record as the most certified African musician in the country.

His latest triumph came when ‘WGFT,’ his collaboration with American rapper Gunna, earned a gold certification in New Zealand. That award pushes Burna Boy’s total tally in the Oceanian nation to an incredible 16 plaques, a feat no other African artist has matched there.

New Zealand has clearly embraced the hitmaker, whose catalogue of albums and singles has repeatedly resonated with fans and critics alike. Burna Boy boasts three 6x platinum certifications in the country, thanks to his global smash hits like ‘Last Last’; ‘Location‘ with Nigerian-British rapper Dave; ‘Own It‘ with British hip-hop star Stormzy; ‘Be Honest‘ with British singer Jorja Smith; his 2018 career-defining single ‘YE‘; and ‘It’s Plenty‘ from his 2023 album Love, Damini.

On top of that, he has collected 10 gold plaques for fan favorites including ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World,’ ‘City Boys,’ ‘Real Life,’ featuring Stormzy, and ‘Alone‘ from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack—all of which enjoyed major commercial success in New Zealand.

This record-setting streak highlights Burna Boy’s position as a leading ambassador for Afrobeats on the global stage. Beyond certifications, his influence is visible in sold-out concerts across America and Europe, where fans continue to celebrate the unique sound and energy that only Burna Boy brings.
