Burna Boy has reached yet another remarkable milestone in his already decorated career after being recognised as the best-selling African artist of all time.

According to global music analytics platform Chartmasters, the Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar has accumulated an estimated 14.46 million equivalent album units, placing him ahead of every other African act in recorded music sales.

The achievement was highlighted by Nigerian music platform Debut Hub, citing the latest figures from the international data aggregator.

The impressive total reflects billions of streams generated by Burna Boy’s catalogue across digital platforms, further underlining the global demand for his music and the continued rise of Afrobeats on the world stage.

The Port Harcourt-born singer has enjoyed a remarkable international run since his breakout moment in 2018 with YE, the hit single that introduced him to a much wider global audience. Although the success of his Outside album accelerated his worldwide recognition, Burna Boy had already spent years building a loyal fan base across Nigeria and Africa after launching his career in 2012.

His consistency has been reflected in an impressive run of album releases. Since 2018, he has delivered five studio albums, with several becoming some of the most-streamed African projects in history. African Giant has crossed 1.2 billion Spotify streams, while Love, Damini has gone even further, surpassing 1.5 billion streams to rank among the platform’s biggest African albums.

Burna Boy’s influence extends far beyond streaming numbers. Widely celebrated for his electrifying live performances, he has also established himself as Africa’s most successful touring artist.

Along the way, he became the first African musician to headline and sell out iconic venues including London’s London Stadium, New York’s Madison Square Garden and France’s Stade de France. He also holds multiple touring records, including the highest-grossing African tour, the biggest single concert by an African artist and record-breaking performances across Canada and Oceania.

His global profile received another major boost at the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he made history as the first African artist to perform at both the tournament’s opening ceremony and halftime show. Sharing the stage with Colombian superstar Shakira, Burna Boy performed Dai Dai, the official anthem of the competition, before millions of viewers around the world.

From dominating streaming platforms to filling some of the world’s biggest stadiums, Burna Boy’s latest achievement adds another chapter to a career defined by consistency, global influence and a relentless drive to take African music to new heights. His rise from local star to international music powerhouse continues to redefine what is possible for African artists on the global stage.
