BON Awards decides to rename an award category after Sammie Okposo.
One of the categories for the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards has been renamed in honour of the late gospel artist Sammie Okposo, who passed away on Friday, November 25.
The award’s organisers announced this in a statement on Wednesday, November 30, saying that the ‘Best Soundtrack Category’ would be renamed in honour of the 51-year-old.
BON founder Seun Oloketuyi commented on the most recent development, stating that even though the BON is not a music award, the need to honour Sammie was what spurred the shift.
He wrote:
“Sammie Okposo in his lifetime was a force, and he did a lot for the growth of gospel music in Nigeria and beyond.
“We are not a music award, but we feel the need to honour him in some way. This was what inspired us to rename the Best Soundtrack category after him. His loss will be felt by all and this is just a way to immortalize him.”
