I wanted to go solo- Black Sherif clarifies his decision to include only Burna Boy on his album.
Young and talented Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has disclosed the reason behind featuring only Burna Boy on his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was.”
In an interview with CNN’s Larry Madowo, the “Second Sermon” hitmaker revealed that he initially intended to collaborate with several artists on his album but ultimately chose not to do so because he had a lot to express in his project.
“I made so many songs at that time and I felt like, the story I was going to tell I could tell it alone, I had plans of getting features in the album, but getting to like 70% of the album, I felt I could do it solo, because I had a lot to talk about,” he said.
Regarding the influence of the Nigerian AfroFusion star on the album, Black Sherif explained that his initial interaction with Burna Boy wasn’t primarily focused on music. Instead, Burna Boy showed appreciation for Black Sherif’s artistry and had a profound impact on his self-perception.
Black Sherif rose to prominence in 2021 with the release of “First Sermon” in May, followed by “Second Sermon” in July. His breakthrough came in March 2022 when his single “Kwaku the Traveller” climbed to the number 1 position on both the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music charts.
Notably, his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” made an impressive debut by entering the Billboard World Albums Chart at number 12, marking a significant milestone in his career.
