“Wizkid give himself ‘Wizkid’, him forget say him go grow old” – Basketmouth shades singer
At the 2025 AY Live show, popular Nigerian comedian Basketmouth took a playful jab at some of the country’s biggest music stars, singling out Wizkid and Burna Boy while commending Davido for his consistency and authenticity.
Basketmouth applauded Davido for sticking to his real name and maintaining a loyal team throughout the years. “David has been consistent. He even used his real name, Davido. Consistent for years. David has been going on stage with a hundred people. Till today, him still maintain that number,” he said.
In contrast, the comedian mocked Wizkid for adopting the stage name ‘Wizkid,’ pointing out the irony of calling oneself a “kid” while growing older. “Wizkid gave himself Wizkid, he forgot say him go grow old. Now he is struggling to change the name, nobody gree – machala, na lie you are a Wizkid. Big Bird – na lie, you’re a kid,” Basketmouth joked.
He added that Wizkid’s attempts to change his name hadn’t stuck, saying, “Wizkid no be as e dey be for. Be for him dey whine waist, dey go choreography on top stage. But now him go just wear singlet dey sing ‘She tell me say…’”
Basketmouth also threw light shade at Burna Boy for adding ‘Boy’ to his stage name, implying a similar challenge with growing up while keeping a youthful moniker.
His humorous take sparked reactions from fans and social media, highlighting the playful rivalry and conversations around Nigeria’s music stars’ identities and longevity in the industry.
