Ayra Starr admits to listening to Yeat and Playboi Carti
Grammy Award nominee Ayra Starr has confessed her admiration for American rappers Yeat and Playboi Carti’s music.
In a recent conversation with Capital XTRA, Ayra Starr was asked about her musical preferences beyond Afrobeats. She revealed her fondness for Yeat and Playboi Carti, despite finding their music somewhat perplexing.
“I love me some Yeat. I have never been the type to understand that type of music but for some reason, I was like ‘Yeah! This is not bad. I will get it,” she expressed about her intrigue with the unconventional sounds of American rapper Yeat.
During her conversation with Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie, Ayra Starr mentioned her labelmate Rema and Grammy-winning Burna Boy as her favorite Afrobeat artists. She also enthusiastically highlighted emerging female Afrobeats talents such as Bloody Civilian, Qing Madi, and Lifesize Teddy.
Ayra Starr also mentioned that afrobeats mean everything to her. She said, “Afrobeats means everything to me. Afrobeat is taking over but has been popping for a long time. It is the best genre in the world. I grew up on afrobeats and the fact that I am one of the leading artists to show the world what afrobeat is, I am grateful”.
During the interview, Ayra Starr also delved into her upcoming sophomore album, slated for release later in 2024. She described the album as a reflection of her experiences as a 21-year-old, believing that listeners of all ages will resonate with the emotions and experiences of being 21.
In anticipation of her sophomore album, Ayra Starr announced plans to release a new track next month. Additionally, she revealed her excitement to embark on Chris Brown’s ’11:11′ tour, which kicks off in Detroit in April.
