Asake, Dave, Stormzy, Others Win Big At MOBO Awards
Nigerian singer Asake and others proudly raised the Nigerian flag as winners at the 26th MOBO Awards, held at Utilita Arena, Sheffield, the UK, on 7 February.
At the event hosted by British actor and comedian Babatúndé Aléshé and reality TV personality Indiyah Polack, Asake defeated notable African counterparts Burna Boy, Davido, Rema, Wizkid, Tyla, Adekunle Gold, Ayra Starr, Libianca, and Uncle Waffles to secure the prestigious Best African Act award. Asake’s victory in this category is his first, granting them entry into the prestigious list of winners alongside Wizkid and Burna Boy.
British-Nigerian rapper, Santan Dave with Central Cee secured Song of the Year, British-Ghanaian rapper Stormzy won the Video of the Year prize, while UK-Nigerian Filmmaker and actor, Damson Idris won the Best Performance in a TV Show/Film category.
Meanwhile, Nigerian singer Limoblaze emerged victorious in the Best Gospel category, surpassing competitors from the UK including Annatoria, CalledOut Music, Guvna B, Tofunmi Adorna, and Triple O.
Among the other winners of the night were also US rappers 21 Savage and Drake, who took home the Best International Act award and British-Nigerian artist Little Simz, who was honored with the Best Hip Hop Act award.
The 26th MOBO Awards showcased its significance as an excellent platform for honoring musical excellence across diverse genres and continents.
