After numerous images of the American singer Ariana Grande appeared online, people started to criticise her appearance. The songbird begs people in a brief clip to refrain from judging others’ appearances, especially when it comes to their weight.
Many of the celebrity’s followers have spoken out in her defence and to provide their love and support.
Ariana Grande, a well-known US musician, has spoken out against online fat shaming. The celebrity released a video on Instagram explaining how the criticism of her appearance has affected her.
‘I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what,’ says Ariana in a clip.
The remarks were made in response to social media posts that showed Ariana with light-coloured hair and a distinct appearance. Many individuals voiced concerns about her health and made remarks about how she seemed.
The 26-year-old began the video she posted on Tuesday of this week by discussing how she detests addressing things before stating:
“I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to,” she continued. “I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what.”
This meant eliminating even flattering remarks, especially those that are limited to a person’s outward look.
“If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is, healthy or unhealthy, big or small, this or that, sexy or not sexy, we should really work towards not doing that as much.”
The celebrity further emphasised the need for individuals to put more effort into supporting and protecting one another.
“I think we should help each other work towards just being safer and keeping each other safer,” she added.
However, Ariana talked more about herself and how much better her present figure is than the one to which people are currently comparing her.
“I also just want to say: one, there are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful,” she said.
“And personally for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body.”
