British grime heavyweight Skepta has joined forces with Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake on a new single titled Aloe Vera, bringing together two distinctive musical forces from the UK and Nigerian music scenes.

The track is one of the standout records on Skepta’s latest project, The Fork and Knife, released through Big Smoke Records under exclusive licence to Epic Records. The collaboration further highlights the growing musical connection between London and Lagos.
Production duties were handled by Lex Luger, Vanko and FRANKIE XY, who combine heavy 808 basslines and sharp drum patterns with subtle log-drum elements and acoustic melodies. The result is an interesting blend of UK rap influences and West African musical rhythms.
Both artists bring their individual strengths to the record, with Skepta delivering his usual commanding verses over the hard-hitting instrumental. Asake complements the arrangement with his familiar Afro-fusion sound, adding layered harmonies and infectious melodies that give the song its distinctive character.
Beyond its impressive production and vocal performances, Aloe Vera also carries a deeper message. The title serves as a symbol of healing, resilience and maintaining composure when faced with life’s challenges. Its themes touch on personal growth, handling pressure, success and protecting one’s peace.
With Skepta’s established influence in British rap and Asake’s growing international presence, the collaboration brings together two different musical worlds in a way that feels both natural and refreshing.
Aloe Vera ultimately stands as another exciting UK-Nigeria link-up, combining the energy of British hip-hop with the infectious appeal of contemporary Afrobeats to create a record with strong international potential.
