Nigerian singer Mavo has addressed backlash over some of his old social media posts, apologizing for comments he made about fellow entertainers in his early career.
The issue resurfaced after several of the singer’s past tweets began circulating again, drawing attention to his former opinions about personalities in the Nigerian music scene, including Davido, Ayra Starr, and others.
With the posts sparking fresh reactions online, Mavo reflected on his mindset at the time, admitting that he was overly critical of other entertainers during his university days.
“I was a bad entertainment critic when I started uni until I realized superstars don’t really care about Twitter,” he wrote.
According to the singer, his perspective changed after he stopped paying attention to other artists and redirected his energy towards building his own career. He said the decision has brought him a greater sense of peace.
“I stopped criticizing and focused solely on my music and since then it’s been bliss,” he added.
Mavo also acknowledged that some of his earlier remarks may have affected people, even though causing harm was not his intention. He later apologised to those hurt by his comments.
“My criticism sadly, unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a number of people & I’m honestly sorry,” Mavo said.
The singer went on to explain that meeting some of the people he had previously criticised changed his perception of them. He admitted that his earlier judgments did not necessarily match the experiences he later had with them.
“I have met most of these people and they actually turn out to be amazing people. I’m sorry for my misjudgment. Let love lead,” he concluded.
Mavo’s apology comes as his old posts continue to generate conversations across social media, bringing renewed attention to opinions he expressed before fully focusing on his music career.
