Mr P Reveals How He Recreated the P-Square Magic on Hit Single ‘I Can’t Look Away’
Nigerian singer and performer Mr. P has opened up about the creative process behind his trending single, I Can’t Look Away, revealing that he deliberately revisited the formula that helped make P-Square one of Africa’s most successful music groups.
The singer shared the insight during a radio interview with veteran broadcaster Steve Onu, popularly known as Yaw, where he discussed the inspiration behind the song’s growing success and the steps he took to reconnect with a sound that resonates with longtime fans.
According to Mr. P, one of the key decisions was reassembling members of the creative team that played important roles during the P-Square era. He explained that bringing familiar collaborators back into the fold helped recreate the chemistry that produced many of the group’s biggest records.
Speaking on the move, he said:
“I had to bring back everybody that worked with us as P’Square, like Foster Zeeno, who was the brains behind many of our hits as P’Square.”
Mr. P noted that the goal was to create a high-quality record capable of connecting with audiences across different demographics while maintaining the essence of the sound that fans grew to love over the years.
The singer also disclosed that he recently secured a major five-year partnership with an international company, a deal that reportedly includes the release of three albums. With significant investment already committed to the project, he acknowledged the responsibility of delivering music that meets expectations.
“These people have invested so much in me, so I need to deliver,” he added.
Since its release, I Can’t Look Away has steadily gained momentum, earning praise from listeners who believe the song captures elements of the signature style that helped define P-Square’s dominance across Africa and beyond.
The record has also attracted attention from fellow music stars, including Davido, who publicly endorsed the track on X, describing it as a “fire banger.”
