Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter Skales (Raoul John Njeng-Njeng) has unveiled his highly anticipated album Martina’s Son, a deeply personal project dedicated to his late mother, Martina.
The body of work not only pays tribute to her lasting influence but also underscores Skales’ resilience and artistic maturity.

Blending Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and street-pop, the album captures both dancefloor-ready vibes and heartfelt emotion. Following the success of his 2022 project Sweet Distractions, this release reaffirms his staying power in the Afrobeats landscape.
Martina’s Son serves as an emotional diary, reflecting the journey of a boy from Kaduna whose mother once ran a cassette shop to a global stage performer.
Themes of gratitude, perseverance, and legacy run throughout the project. The opening track, Until We Meet Again, featuring TÖME and Bolu Ajibade, sets a vulnerable yet powerful tone. Songs like Glory with Fave radiate optimism, while Tota E Mole, a collaboration with Yinka Ayefele and Kvng Vinci, fuses gospel and Afropop in a way that bridges generations of Nigerian music.
Across more than 10 tracks, Skales showcases his versatility, weaving nostalgic Naija street sounds with fresh Afro-fusion styles. Top producers including Jaypizzle, Wondah, and Remy Baggins shaped the album’s sonic diversity, which ranges from amapiano-infused beats to highlife rhythms.

Notable collaborations include Body on Me with Uganda’s Joshua Baraka, Alcohol Na Your Mate? with veterans Faze and Magnito, and Looseguard with Nasboi, a lively street anthem. Skales also extends his reach globally with Jogo (Remix) featuring Congolese star Innoss’B, and a Spanish twist on his classic hit Shake Body alongside Oscar el Ruso.
The album has already been met with positive reception, with fans flooding social media to celebrate its release. Early favorites like Mental and Tota E Mole have gained traction online, while Skales’ timeless hit Shake Body recently resurfaced on TikTok, boosted by FC Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
With Martina’s Son, Skales demonstrates both evolution and endurance. From his early days at E.M.E to carving an independent path with OHK Music, the artist has continued to reinvent himself.
This project not only cements his place as a consistent voice in Afrobeats but also stands as one of 2025’s most meaningful releases—honoring his mother’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of African sound.
