Music streams revenue not substantial – Bad Boy Timz
Singer Olorunyomi Oloruntimilehin, also known as Bad Boy Timz, has expressed his views on the funds earned by music streams, claiming that it is not a substantial source of income for artists.
Bad Boy Timz highlighted that many artists often reinvest their earnings from music streams back into music promotion, indicating that the returns may not be substantial.
In light of this, the ‘MJ’ crooner advised fellow artists to focus on alternative revenue streams such as live shows, tours, and sponsorships to bolster their income.
Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Timz said: “As an artist you cannot depend on music streams because it is not substantial. Most of the earnings from music streams are reinvested on promotion.
“So, what I do is go on tours. I’m always trying to get Visas to tour different countries. I have been touring for over a year now. So I advised my colleagues to make more money from shows and seek sponsorships.”
Burna Boy, in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, stated that 90 percent of afrobeats songs are “literally nothing.”
In response, Bad Boy Timz expressed his disagreement with Burna Boy’s perspective and noted that afrobeats has been a source of livelihood for him and many other artists for years.
However, Bad Boy Timz also suggested that Burna Boy might have been referring to certain artists within the genre and not making a blanket statement about all of them.
He said: “I feel like maybe representation of the message he [Burna Boy] was to pass across came off as a ‘Burna Boy.’ You understand that Burna is the type of person to make his point whether you hurt or not.
