Carlo Ancelotti declares ‘love’ for Sevilla’s Sergio Ramos as Real Madrid legend prepares for reunion with former coach.
In advance of their meeting again when Real Madrid travels to Sevilla on Saturday, Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged his love for the illustrious defender Sergio Ramos.
Ramos left Madrid after 16 years, including two spent under the Italian’s tutelage, and joined Sevilla in the summer transfer window.
This weekend, Sevilla will play host to Ancelotti’s Madrid in a La Liga match, and the vice president of the home team has already opined on whether Ramos will celebrate if he scores.
Ramos contributed to Real Madrid’s 2014 Champions League victory under Ancelotti. The seasoned defender tied the score against Atletico Madrid in the 93rd minute of the championship game, setting up a 4-1 victory for his team after extra time.
Ancelotti says he owes his current job to the 37-year-old and is looking forward to seeing him again.
“No, I love to see him, to greet him because obviously I have a special affection for him,” Ancelotti told reporters. “If I’m here today it’s above all because of Sergio Ramos. If he didn’t score the goal in the final I probably wouldn’t be here.
For this and for everything he has done for this club, everyone is very fond of him, especially me in particular. I’m sure he’s going to have a great game and then if he scores a goal, hopefully not, he can do whatever he wants.”
Madrid will want to maintain their advantage at the top of La Liga with a victory over Sevilla, who are 14th in the standings and have not won in their past three games in all competitions.
