Talented Nigerian Afrobeat artist Ahmed Ololade, known professionally as Asake, has revealed the primary motive behind his transition from dance to a career in singing.

In a recent CNN interview, he candidly explained that his decision to switch from dance to music was primarily driven by his strong desire for financial success.

Asake expressed doubts about achieving the level of financial prosperity he aspired to solely through dance, which ultimately led him to embrace music as his profession.

‘The main reason why I left dance is for the love of money’, he said. ‘I know I want to be very honest. Dance is something that I love. I can’t even do without moving, but I feel like the kind of money I want, I’m not sure dance can give me’.

He proceeded by saying that music and dance go hand in hand because a song would be uninteresting without dancers, but due to his love of money, he would choose singing over dancing.

‘I think both music and dance work together because in a video without a dancer, it’s like this song is boring’, he said. ‘Even if you want to make it so gangster-like, oh, there are so many people bumping, you still need to use the dancers. So, as they work together, I think for the love of money, I’d rather be singing [laughs]’.

When asked if he would have done music instead if he could have made it big as a successful dancer, Asake said that he would rather do both and earn more money that way.

‘No, I would join music and dance together’, he said. ‘So, I will have more money [laughs]’.
