The Nigerian music industry boasts of a lot of collaborations where foreign artists feature on a Nigerian song and many more international collaborations will soon be flooding the music scene.

However, there are few foreign artists who have proven to be the best bet when a Nigerian artist sought for international collaborations.

These artists have not only made them accessible but also bring their best to a song that sometimes is off their lane.

They have also shown the willingness to apply pidgin when they see the need for it and to smoothly blend in with Nigerian artists.

Here are the best and most talented foreign artists to feature on a Nigerian song

    Akon

    Akon

Akon will always be respected in the Nigerian Industry as he was one of the first international artists to give Afrobeat artists a chance and collaborate with them.

The Senegalese-American singer was a popular feature on Nigerian songs in the early 2010s. His collaborations include “Frosh” by D’banj, “For Me” and “Roll It” by Wizkid, “Chilling” by Davido, “Hustle” by May D and the ever-popping hit remix, “Chop My Money” by P-square

    Chris Brown

Chris Brown is another favourite International artist to feature in Nigerian songs. The sweetest part is him singing part of his verses in pidgin. Fans have recently been clamouring for the singer to be given a Nigerian name due to the way he easily blends in on Nigerian songs.

His Nigerian collaborations include, “African Bad Gyal” and “Shabba” by Wizkid, “Blow My Mind” and “Shopping Spree” by Davido, “Time & Affection” by Rema, “Monalisa Remix” by Lojay X Sarz, among others.

    Rick Ross

    Rick Ross

Rick Ross is an underrated bonus for Nigerian-International collaborations. While he might be familiar with pidgins like Akon and Chris Brown or make use of native languages in songs, he definitely knows how to deliver on a Nigerian song.

Remember how he stole the show on the remix of P-square’s beautiful 2012 love ballad, “Beautiful Onyinye” which overtook the original? I mean, how many people even know that the song was a remix, to begin with?

In 2019, Yemi Alade enlisted him for the remix of her song, “Oh My Gosh” and while the song wasn’t as popular as Beautiful Onyinye, it contained a beautiful delivery from, Rick Ross.

    Ed Sheeran

    Ed Sheeeran

Ed Sheeran is a newcomer to the Nigerian-International collaboration bus but he is still killing it. While Burna Boy first made news in 2019 for collaborating with Ed Sheeran after being featured in “Own It’ by Stormy, it wasn’t until Fireboy DML’s “Peru” remix that people knew Ed Sheeran was a great fit for Afrobeat collaborations.

Burna Boy also got the chance in 2022 to feature the Ginger-haired musician on a personal song which is titled “For My Hands.” Many hope to see Ed Sheeran do more Afrobeat collaborations.

    Justin Bieber

    Justin Bieber

Just like Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber is also a newcomer to the Nigerian-International collaboration movement but so far, fans have been loving his features on Nigerian songs, his first being his feature on the remix of Wizkid and Tems‘ chart-breaking single, “Essence“. He really took over the song like it was his own.

Next Omah Lay had the good luck of getting him to feature on his single, “Attention“.

Drake is not a newcomer to the Nigerian-International collaboration train but he is one of those elites that take their time to work with a Nigerian musician.

His first Nigerian collaboration was on the remix of Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” which also featured Skepta, then he and Big Wiz worked on the record-breaking “One Dance” song before Wizkid got another chance to feature on “Come Closer“.

While he hasn’t featured on any Nigerian song since “Come Closer“, he has worked with various Nigerian musicians like Tekno, Tems and Rema.
