Mp3ullet.ng takes a look at the unforgettable verses from Davido that have made him one of Nigeria’s best go-to acts for features.

Ten years have passed since a young, naive Davido first revealed himself to the world.

Since his seductive entry with the Naeto C-assisted “Back When” and the breathtaking “Dami Duro,” he has more than earned the right to be discussed in the same breath as some of the best acts, like 2face, Psquare, Olamide, Wande Coal, Wizkid, and many more, as he has consistently delivered, making him one of the most decorated artists the country has ever seen.

Aside from his own work, Davido’s natural ability to cover a song by another artist and improve it beyond the original while largely adhering to his own sound is unmatched. He has evolved into a kind of cheat code.

Do you want a popular song? feature Davido. It works like a charm. He has appeared as a guest on a number of notable and top-charting tracks domestically and internationally during the past ten years.

However, in this article, we would be looking at some of the best verses from Davido on his features that one can’t forget.

    One Ticket- Kizz Daniel

    One Ticket

    “Every time wire me money
Hello baby, have You sent it (Na wa)
You dunno, even know what you do to me
    Ejefe golo shoba mula mi
    Olo omoge you be scammer
I dey follow you for back o girl
Baby girl you blow my mind, I no go lie”

In preparation for the 2018 release of No Bad Songz, his sophomore album, Kizz dropped the catchy lead track “One Ticket.”

The catchy song’s opening stanza is a standout performance by Davido, who gives a brutally honest, empathetic, and spirited performance.

Although lyrically this performance is not his best, it would be difficult to locate another varied verse in his career that portrays him as what he actually is—a human.

He sings “Baby you blow my mind i no go lie” in the same breath as “See baby if you want to leave biko leave / No do shakara, no dey carry your shoulder” simultaneously showing vulnerability and strength.

    Bhad Baddo Baddest- Falz

Falz – Bahd Baddo Baddest ft. Olamide & Davido

“I get plenty kele, fresh fresher, freshest
I get like 2million dollars, no be asset. Eh eh
Some people say dem bad like me but nobody badder than
Some people wan buy car like me but dem money no reach gan
I cover magazine, I cover magazine
I see am for my dream, I see am for my dream
Mr Dele na my boy, Dele na my boy
If you come into my house you go see my toys
I get like hundred niggers wey dey protect me
So, if you love yourself motherfucker no dey vex me”

“Bahd Baddo Baddest” by Falz was one of the best and hottest songs when it was released.

The trio of strong hitters Falz (Bahd), Olamide (Baddo), and Davido (Baddest) work nicely together, gliding across Sess’ buoyant beat with relative ease as they expertly showcase their individual talents and diversity.

The song’s best part, though, is Davido’s unforgettable melodic, trap verse. While delivering his smart, boastful, and vaunted lines, came “Mr Dele na my boy”, a controversial and objectionable jab at 61-year-old journalist and publisher, Chief Dele Momodu.

Even though they were short and to the point, those notorious lines are undoubtedly among the most endearing and snarky things a Nigerian pop singer has ever said.

    Bobo- Mayorkun

Memorable verses from Davido's features that bang hard to date
    Bobo

“I believe in water but I no be fisher man
But I must catch this fish oo
Me, I must chop this dish oo
I no fit leave my race for another man
Nobody go take my place oo
Devil no go burn my cave oo”

The song “Bobo” would still be acknowledged as one of Mayorkun’s best. Everything that makes Mayorkun Mayorkun is on the mellow, mid-tempo record. From his entrancing vocals and witty one-liners to his sweet-sounding songs and enticing ad-libs.

His two powerful verses, in which he painfully relates his experience of being ghosted by a love interest for a wealthier person, contain all of these and much more before he hands the torch to Davido, who takes it home with perhaps the best guest verse of his career.

Where Davido truly stood out was, “But I must catch this fish o, I must chop this fish o…”

Later followed by “She say she’s a fan, she wants to blow me / Whether na standing or ceiling sha ti femi,” which is probably the hardest line Davido has ever sung on a record. Although it might not be revolutionary or head-spinning, Davido’s use of double entendre and wordplay is incredibly intelligent, humorous, and most importantly, respectable.

    Ke Star- Focalistic

    “Not intentional, nothing personal
Feel the pressure now when you come to my face (come to my face)
See as I spray the dollar now that’s intentional
    International unconventional craze (tule jor)
    Intentional craze

It goes down when my g’s connect
    No disconnect
    I dey catch cruise forget
    If you talk you collect”

“Ke Star” by Focalistic was one of the most addicting records of 2020. Focalistic’s infectious ad-libs and rhythmic rapping and singing were supported by the hypnotic and upbeat percussion and synths of Vigro Deep.

For the remake of the already outstanding banger this year, Davido was brought in, and he does not disappoint, turning in one of his greatest guest verses in recent memory.

His lines: “It goes down when my gees connect, no disconnect / I dey catch cruise forget / If you talk you collect” which roll off his tongue with relative ease and panache are undoubtedly the highlight of the record.

    High- Adekunle Gold

    “Wake up and jump start
I go chop you like oha, yeah
    Come be my Oga
I can’t get away from this thing
I love the way you gat me feeling
Omo mailo baby girl no leave me
    Malo”

High by Adekunle Gold was a chart-topper for numerous reasons, one of which was Davido’s memorable verse.

While Adekunle Gold laid the foundation with his verse, once Davido started singing, it was impossible not to be charmed by his lyrical brilliance and flow. I am talking about how he rhymed Jumpstart with Oha.
