The comparison of two different artists has been an ongoing trend in the Nigerian Music Industry as this is a coping method for fans to believe that their fave is doing better than another artist.

Comparisons between two artists happen for different reasons and on different occasions. The criteria used in these cases of comparison include Popularity, success, fanbase, wealth, music and vocal range.

Usually, comparisons happen between two artists of the same generation but sometimes comparisons can happen between a top artist and a fast artist.

    Tiwa Savage vs Tems

Tiwa Savage vs tems; 10 Times Fans have compared Top artists with Fast Rising artists

Tiwa Savage is one of the few popular female artists in the industry and is seen as the queen of Afrobeat in the Nigerian Music Industry.

There are times when she is being pitted against her fellow female colleagues in the industry. One artist she is constantly been compared with is Yemi Alade which even resulted in a physical beef between the two.

However, after the two settled their beef, fans moved on to comparing her with another fast-rising artist, Tems.

Tems became a national sensation in 2019 with her hit, “Try Me” but her popularity skyrocketed thanks to her feature on Wizkid’s “Essence” which has been breaking ground in 2021.

This popularity has not only earned Tems fame in the international music scene but also a place on Drake’s album, “Certified Lover Boy.”

Music fans who don’t support Tiwa Savage have capitalized on Tems’s fame to compare the two, using every opportunity to drag Tiwa and her over a decade music career.

    Simi vs Ayra Starr

Simi vs Ayra Starr; 10 Times Fans have compared Top artists with Fast Rising artists

This is a comparison that is still a surprise to this writer as the two artists involved here have different styles of music, but as you will find out from this list, it doesn’t matter to fans who just want to compare.

Simi has been doing music for a long time, as long as any other top artist in the Industry. However, she only found mainstream fame from the year 2014 with”Tiff” and later “Jamb Question” in 2015.

Ayra Starr on the other hand is a newcomer who recently joined the Industry officially in 2021. Compared to Simi, Ayra only has an EP and an album to her credit.

While Ayra Starr is undoubtedly talented but compared to Simi’s long reign in the music industry and her impressive resume, this comparison is a long reach.

    Wizkid vs Rema

Wizkid vs Rema;10 Times Fans have compared Top artists with Fast Rising artists

Rema was introduced by D’Prince, the owner of Jonzing Records in 2019 and one noticeably detail about the youngster that people pointed was his similarity to Afrobeat Giant, Wizkid.

Rema’s breakthrough hit, “Dumebi” also supported this fact as even people who didn’t know about the singer thought it was a Wizkid’s song.

Since that moment, Rema’s three music career has been littered with comparisons between him and Wizkid.

While he is sometimes compared with his fellow new school artists like Fireboy DML, Joeboy based on popularity, his comparison with Wizkid is based on sound and music style.

While Rema in his recent songs has tried to prove he is nothing like Wizkid, this has done nothing to reduce the comparisons.

In Fact, many fans tout him as the artist to inherit Wizkid’s place as Afrobeat king should Wizkid retire from music.

    Olamide vs Small Doctor

Olamide is respected in the industry for popularizing indigenous rap and pushing street sound. Even with over a decade in the Industry and many achievements to his belt, it still doesn’t shield him from the comparison gang.

In 2016, Small Doctor gained prominence thanks to his “penalty” song that took over airwaves and the streets.

This led to comparisons between Small Doctor and Olamide with some insinuating that the former would take over the Latter’s throne as King of the streets.

    Wande Coal vs Fireboy DML

When it comes to pop music in the Nigerian Music industry, Wande Coal is seen as a pioneer for the sound going mainstream. His sound became an influence in the likes of Wizkid, Fireboy DML and others.

Fireboy’s entrance into the Industry with his breakthrough hit, “Jealous” had people calling him Wande Coal’s protege. As he grows in popularity, the YBNL signee seems to give off Wande’s vibe.

Although the two are not completely the same, it’s not hard to spot the similarities in them.

    Wizkid vs Reekado Banks

Reekado Banks isn’t a new school artist but he just like Rema had his music style compared to Wizkid’s when he first came out.

When he came into the Industry in 2014 via Mavins Record, it take too long for him to be pitted against Wizkid.

Some people believed that he was a threat to Wizkid’s career and would succeed in dethroning Wizkid as Afrobeat king.

    Olamide vs Naira Marley

This won’ be the last time Olamide would appear on this list as the YBNL Label owner has been the King of the streets for years and it’s nos surprise that any time the streets welcomes a new music star, he gets compared to Olamide.

Interestingly, Olamide is one of the artists instrumental to Naira Marley’s popularity. He was featured on Niara Marley’s breakthrough hit, “Issa Goal” which was released in 2018.

A year before, the two had also collaborated on the street anthem, “Ko Si Werey”.

    Olamide vs Zlatan

Zlatan isn’t a fast-rising artist but when he started gaining popularity in the industry another artist he was touted as another artist to dethrone Olamide as King of the streets.

Also just like Naira Marley, Olamide was instrumental to Zlatan’s fame in the music industry.

Olamide was a featured artist on Zlatan’s “My Body” and even the latter at one point publicly declared that he believes in the former more than pastors.

    Fela vs Burna Boy

Fela Vs Burna Boy;10 Times Fans have compared Top artists with Fast Rising artists

While Burna Boy is far from a fast-rising artist but when he first came to prominence in 2012 with his debut album, “L.I.F.E”, people see the influence of Fela on his style of music.

This led to him being seen as Fela’s protege and being touted as the one to replace Fela but any reasonable person knows that isn’t possible.

Fela isn’t just a music legend, this was a man that pioneered Afrobeat, the genre that Nigerian artists are being grouped under.

Even Burna boy himself in several interviews and tweets has slammed people who try to compare him to Fela.

P-square is one of Nigeria’s best music groups that had people in chokehold with their songs and dance routines for years until their unfortunate spilt in 2017.

Their breakup left a vacuum as it was rare to see boybands still in popularity and when Mavin Records led by Don Jazzy announced the DNA twins as its latest signees in 2017, many people hoped they would fill the vacuum P-square left.
