Nigerian artists are known for their superb collaborations, home and abroad. Yet, only a few have worked closely with veteran musicians, and gotten it right.
In the current age, while a lot of Nigerian Artists sample from songs from veteran musicians, a lot of them are still yet to collaborate with them
The ones who do so did it so well that it became hard to distinguish their voices from the older artists.
In actuality, they are so similar to the veteran musicians, both artists become one personality for the duration of the song.

Here are the collaborations between Nigerian Artists and veteran musicians that have been done far:
Zlatan and Obesere
In 2020 before the lockdown took over the country, the Nigerian Twitter had dug up old songs of Veteran fuji star, Obesere and “Egungun be Careful” was one of the songs that reigned.
Zlatan in his usual way of jumping on trends took advantage of the opportunity to do a remix of the song with Obesere. While the remix wasn’t well-received by fans, the collaboration was still a good idea.
K1 De Ultimate and Teni
K1 De Ultimate is known as the pioneer of modern fuji and is well respected in the music industry. In fact, Nigerian Artists mostly from the Yoruba tribe are known to sample his songs.
In 2020, he dropped an EP titled “Fuji the Sound“. The EP saw the legendary performer fuse Fuji with elements of Afrobeats. One of the songs he featured Teni titled ‘Omo Naija“. Teni who is known to sample fuji on her song didn’t have a problem smoothly flowing with the song.
DJ Cuppy and Sir Shina Peters
DJ Cuppy released her debut album, “Original copy” in 2020 and she featured an impressive number of great artists on it. On one of the songs titled, “54” we featured music legend Sir Shina Peters and Reggae icon, Julian Marley.
Despite the two different genres, the respective artists practice, they managed to make the impossible possible. ’54’ which pays homage to Africa and its countries sees reggae and Juju music blend on an Afrobeat tempo.
Ice Prince and Sunny Neji
Ice Prince teamed up with Veteran singer, Sunny Neji on “Whiskey” off his album, “Fire of Zamani” released in 2013.
The song was at that the first in a long time people had heard again from Sunny Neji who used to rule the early 2000s with his hit songs.
Simi and Ebenezer Obey
in 2021, Simi and Legendary Fuji maestro Ebenezer Obey teamed up to remix one of his iconic hits, Aimasiko for the 14th Headies Award.
Actually, Simi had covered the song on her second studio album, “Simisola” in 2017. While she did an amazing job on it, the Headies version saw her align with Ebenezer Obey to produce magic which quickly found its way into people’s heart.

2Baba and Victor Olaiya
Late Victor Olaiya is remembered for many of his hit songs, 2Baba teamed up with him to make a remix to one of the songs titled, “Baby Jowo”.
This remix is a great companion to the original song, and we will remember Dr Victor Olaiya every time we listen to it.
