    Beyonce -Run The Girl

Beyonce got everyone dancing irrespective of their gender to this Girl-power tune. ‘Run The World’.

“Who run the world? Girls!” This song doesn’t beg or advocate for equal rights. It states that women already have it.

Beyonce celebrates every woman, especially those holding down a job, and motherhood at the same time. She also recognizes men who respect women.

    Little Mix- Salute

“Salute” is a girl-power song, being called “a call to arms for women everywhere to stand up and fight whatever imaginary enemy is standing in their way,” with military metaphors, war sirens, and hip hop and trap influences, drawing comparisons to Destiny’s Child and Beyoncé‘s “Run the World (Girls)“.

    Demi Lovato- Confident

“Confident” is a “drum-line driven” pop and pop-rock song about empowerment and confidence. Demi Lovato asks a question, ‘What’s wrong with being confident?’

Girl is on Fire- Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys opens the songs with the lyrics “She got both feet on the ground and she’s burning it down. She got her head in the clouds and she’s not backing down. This girl is on fire!”

The lyrics centre around toasting the “achievements of women everywhere”, particularly with the hook “She’s just a girl and she’s on fire”

    The Man- Taylor Swift

In ‘The Man’, Taylor Swift addresses the disparity between how men and women in the same roles are viewed by society. She notes that she is tired of being placed in a box and imagines how her life would have gone if she was a man.

In the hook, she sings; “I’m so sick of running as fast as I can / Wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man / And I’m so sick of them coming at me again / ‘Cause if I was a man, then I’d be the man”

    I’m a Lady- Meghan Trainor

I’m a Lady is one of the soundtracks on Smurfs: The Lost Village animation.

While it was befitting to the cartoon, it is very much a girl power song that celebrates women the way they are.

“I don’t look like them, I don’t talk like them…I ain’t worried about it,” basically says one should own their feminity because there’s power in knowing that you are “a gem.”

    Stronger- Kelly Clarkson

Initially viewed as a breakup song, Stronger has evolved, taking a life of its own to become a girl power song.

The Self-empowerment song is borrowed from the popular saying; “That which does not kill us makes us stronger”

The song empowers women to embrace their challenges and their pain as it only makes them stronger.
