So, this year, all the big guys actually just went AWOL. It wasn’t until July that we started hearing from some of them, and we even have the ones that are dropping their debut single for the year, in September. We can’t say it’s not good, because if anything, it’s made way for some younglings to take the shine.
A couple of guys have blown this year, making amazing impressions, dropping hits, shutting down concerts and even becoming household names. And of those who have really accomplished a lot this year is Joeboy.
Joeboy is a lover boy, a talented artist who is all shades of good music and vibes. He is one of the guys from the emPawa Africa masterclass, which is powered by the pop star, Mr Eazi and is sponsored by PawaPlay. Since February, though, he’s been up to big things. And there are a number of hits to show for that.
“Baby” is the hottest one, and it’s still trending, online, on the streets, in the clubs, everywhere. It’s got that irresistible vibe, the kind artists like Kizz Daniel and Reekado Banks have used to wow us over, in the past. The music is original, the lyrics powerful and the beat has just the perfect dance tune. It’s why it’s big on the streets, anyway.
Usually, emerging artists like Joeboy, start off with sleeper hits, which later become hot online, before they make their major bangs. What’s amazing is how instant “Baby” became a hit. Within weeks, it was on all major platforms and was already on the streets. And that’s because “Baby” has that unique touch you won’t get from most up-and-coming artists, these days. Even many A-listers can’t do stuff like that, anymore.
It’s good music, to say the least. And for a guy that just arrived on the scene, it’s more than we can ever expect. But, he’s got the platform and he’s a fan favorite already. “Baby” did the magic. It’s even more of a bigger hit in Kenya than it is down here, as the comments online show. It’s crazy how he’s already having a far reach into the biggest markets of African music.
Then there is the Visualizer, which recently just passed the 10M mark on YouTube. For clarity, the number of videos released this year from Nigerian artists that have up to that isn’t more than 10. That means Joeboy is even a bigger deal than we even have any idea of. And the things he can still do?
Although, there’s been a number of singles from other emerging artists that have been big hits, this year with what “Baby” has achieved within a short time, it’s safe to say it’s gradually becoming the hottest breakthrough hit of the year.
