Since ‘street music’ took over the music industry, a few years ago, it’s been hit non-stop and guys who were just pure street material have crossed over to the mainstream more than ever. Olamide, who started off as an indigenous hip-hop artist, and later turned into the ‘voice of the streets’ is one of the first guys to put street music at the forefront.
Since Olamide, a lot of artists who have claimed street have come to limelight and made commercial hits. Imagine Lil Kesh almost got the Next Rated award with street hit single, “Efejoku” and Small Doctor’s “Penalty” became one of the hottest songs of 2018. Slimcase became the go-to artist for hits, last year and big artists including D’banj featured him.
Point is, “street ti take over” and there is no stopping it now. Meanwhile, Mp3bullet presents to you our list of top 10 street songs of 2019, so far. You’re probably already banging most of them!
Olamide isn’t just the voice of the streets, he’s a force to reckon with, in the whole industry and even internationally. Around here, he’s one of the biggest hitmakers, and for almost a decade, the YBNL rapper has been consistently dishing fire jams and even albums.
“Oil & Gas” has the whole Baddo vibe, you know he’s not trying to impress anyone, the boss is just doing his thing. The track had him rapping about wanting to help some big guys ‘chop’ their money since they can’t spend it all alone. He did shout-out Jagaban and Tony Elumelu. Perfect concept for a hit!
Zlatan Ibile is one of the hottest guys around now, since his “Zanku (Leg Work)” track became a huge hit, last summer. He single-handedly kick-started a new movement that took over shaku-shaku.
“This Year” is one of his biggest hits, and it’s very popular on the streets. So next time you hear people chanting “Offering time, blessing time,” don’t conclude you landed in a church. You may as well just be on the streets!
Who doesn’t know the song that got the EFCC chasing after Naira Marley and Zlatan?
The story was, Simi had said some stuff about internet fraudsters (aka yahoo boys) and Naira Marley took it upon himself to make a song out of the whole situation. “Am I a Yahoo Boy?” which featured Zlatan, is actually just for fun.
EFCC took it personally, though. Days after the song was shared they picked up the two street artists. Zlatan was released shortly after.
And that wasn’t the whole story, though. Zlatan Ibile was released, but they kept Naira Marley in custody for a while. While he was behind bars, he must have got some kind of inspiration.
Because immediately he was freed, he dropped a new track “Soapy.” He had lyrics about his arrest on the song, and even added the phrase “won be ni” which he said in a video taken in court, while he was still in custody,
“Soapy” was accompanied by a very much controversial dance that has taken the streets by surprise, The Soapy fever isn’t going away anytime soon.

Slimcase had all of last year to himself. At least most of it, before Duncan Mighty came along. He inadvertently became one of the hottest street artists in the country, with a number of hits under his belt.
“Azaman” proved to be his biggest hit till date. It’s not every day you get 2Baba, Peruzzi, and Slimcase together on a track. And Larry Gaga for moral support.
Olamide knows the formulae, and he used it in an early release of “Woske” to become one of the first hits of 2019.
“Woske” which had a Zanku-themed video somewhat, was produced by Killertunes (who had worked with Wizkid in the past) and it paid some homage to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. It was indeed nig on the streets!
CDQ is an artist that doesn’t need any introduction in today’s industry. He’s been consistent for a couple of years now and has made a name for himself.
“Onye Eze” which was inspired by a trending story of a blogger, Blessing Okoro, who posed with a house that wasn’t hers. As it happened, the house belonged to a man called Onye Eze.
So, CDQ picked it up from there and made a track. In less than a month after, he came back with a remix featuring Zlatan.
Qdot is one of the biggest names on the street. His sweet Yoruba boy’s melody is so contagious, and everyone loves it.
“Koshidanu” which sounds much like his popular “Wo” cover, is a hi tempo track, with all the good vibes for the street. Within weeks, it was already a big one on the streets.
There is a street, and there is Instagram. And, there is a street on Instagram, too. And quite a number of guys are using the video-sharing platform to do their thing. Picazo got signed off freestyles, Lil Frosh got a Small Doctor collabo after his viral Instagram video.
Zinoleesky is like Lil Frosh. But better, because he’s not even a rapper, he’s a dope singer and he’s done freestyles with Frosh, before. He has a cool cover of Kizz Daniel‘s “Fvck You.”
But “Money” was quite the hit. Zlatan on it, that’s everything you need to make a hit on the streets at table one like this. Zino is an act to watch out for, no doubt.
Zanku time, Rexxie time. Rexxie is the guy behind all the big street hits we’ve been getting since Zlatan became a sensation, last year. “Bum Bum”, “Logo Benz”, and a whole lot of other Zlatan Ibile songs.
Well, the producer teamed up with his homeboys, Zlatan Ibile and Naira Marley. Oh, and Teni (a little plot twist, right there.) I mean, if you’re going to make a big hit, you could as well just get a good singer to do some magic for you.
Naira Marley, who mostly was just jerking around on the song, had a verse, while Teni and Zlatan did the work. Teni did kill it, though!
