Slimcase 7 Facts You Don't Know About The Oshozondi Rapper Mp3bulletSlimcase was a huge sensation. In fact, he is still a sensation in today’s industry. His breakthrough story is one of the most unique and inspirational stories in Nigeria’s Music Industry.

Slimcase, came along with the street wave, known as shaku shaku, that took over, from mid last year. It’s still very much alive, we know, and with Olamide’s midas touch, a couple Slimcases and Idowest’s, we’ll be having a shaku filled Christmas.

Back to Slimcase. The guy had the vibe, understood the street sound, and went on to tush it up, for mainstream acceptance (even hip-hop had to accept!)

He’s also one of the artistes that have had a ground breaking 2018. But for Duncan Mighty, I’d have said he will win the next rated Award. (Oh no, just joking, Duncan’s a Legend)

Quickly, on this new Edition of Mp3bullet’s “Facts You Don’t Know” series, we bring you, seven things you probably don’t know about the Otunba Lamba!

    • 33 YEARS

If you actually know Slimcase’s age, you won’t ever pitch him for Next Rated, ever. But, Slimcase’s Case (that wasn’t supposed to be a pun at all) is just another of “age is just a number.”

Born Oluwafemi Oladapo Oke-Eko, in August 1985, the “Oshozondi” rapper is currently 33. That is, he’s older than Wizkid, Olamide, Davido and Burna Boy.

    • DOING MUSIC SINCE 2011

You already know he’s 33, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that he’s been doing this music thing for long.

According to him, he was encouraged by his guy who was a producer, Beat By Sars (Do I still have to tell you he’s not the same as Sarz?)

So, in 2011, he started recording music professionally. He was probably popular in his hood, then. But it took him 7 years to break into the mainstream?

    • WAS A COMEDIAN

I think it’s M.I Abaga, yeah, who was said to have tried out comedy, but was awful. It’s not only him that tried, tho. Slimcase also did.

He didn’t only try, he was a comedian. And with the way he does his intro’s and interludes with humor, you can tell that he was actually good at the thing.

It was in the process, he branched into music. The latter paid off, as we all know.

    • HE CAN ACTUALLY RAP

One of my friends who was a hip hop head once told me the characteristic of a whack rapper is, “they like shaku shaku.”

I understood, shaku-shaku is very easy to do, and even if you don’t know what rap is, you can just jump on a beat and vibe, in the name of shaku.

But Slimcase is different… Although he’s one of the front liners of shaku shaku, he can actually rap. Case Study: Industry OT.

    • COLLABOS

It’s amazing to know that Slimcase made it this big without dropping singles of his own. No EP, no mix tape, no album. Just collabos.

Since his break-out hit “Oshozondi” which is actually a song by DJ Sidez, he’s gone on to be featured on some of the hottest jams. Say DJ Enimoney’s “Diet” which had Reminisce and Tiwa Savage. Or Idowest’s “Shepeteri,” or DJ Neptune’s “Shawa Shawa.” His long list of collaborations are very impressive.

    • AFROBEATS DIET

Small Doctor brought shaku-shaku to the mainstream with his crossover hit, “Penalty,” but it was Slimcase who worked all the magic to the popular sub-genre.

By just repping the street, he got featured by D’banj on “Issa Banger,” In January. And that was one of the biggest leaps of the shaku movement, altogether.

After D’banj, everyone started paying attention. And Slim didn’t hesitate to jump on any track available, at the time. With “Diet,” too, Tiwa Savage was a fan. Yemi Alade came for him.

Tiwa introduced Slim to Wizkid, and with that, the movement exploded. Even Mr Eazi, who is the prince of mid-tempo Afrobeats had to call on Slimcase.

With that, Slim was on an afro diet, and he even linked up with the afrobeat god, Killertunes for “Kalamo.”
Wizkid couldn’t help but put him on the new jam, “Gucci Snake“, even though he was only on the intro. He still wanted that Slimcase wave.

    • N1M

During a Saturday Beats interview in March, Slimcase revealed that as at that time, he takes a whooping sum of N1, 000, 000 to perform at a show.

That is to say, if you have half a milli Slimcase ain’t coming to your show. Sorry ehn.

We don’t know who the real king of the street is, but we know one thing, Slimcase is the Otunba Lamba!
