Yemi Alade explains why she didn’t win awards.
Renowned singer Yemi Alade has opened up about her experiences in the Nigerian music industry, revealing that despite her undeniable success and widespread fame, she seldom clinches awards due to her steadfast refusal to comply with organizers’ requests for sexual favors.
The celebrated ‘Johnny‘ crooner disclosed that numerous entertainment executives have approached her in the past, seeking sexual favors in exchange for promises of enhanced opportunities.
However, Yemi Alade asserted that she holds no regrets for rebuffing these advances, as she values her dignity above all else. She expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her fans, who continue to stand by her despite the challenges she faces in the industry.
“There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria,” WithInNigeria quoted her as saying.
“Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.”
Mama Africa has disclosed that her album is nearing completion, teasing fans with updates on social media. Sharing snapshots of herself with the caption, “Album 80% done,” she hinted at the imminent release. Back in November 2023, the multi-award-winning artist had already sparked anticipation by suggesting she would unveil an album in 2024 during an interview on Cool FM’s The Big Friday Show.
As she gears up for her upcoming album, Yemi Alade has made a significant move on Twitter by removing all images from her profile picture and cover photo. This strategic step suggests an imminent reveal of the album’s cover art and title, heightening anticipation among her devoted fans.
