Ice Prince declares rise of Nigerian rap, listing top rappers.

Nigerian hip-hop sensation Ice Prince has responded to the recent statement made by Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, who claimed that “rap is dead.” The ‘Aboki‘ hitmaker dismissed this notion, asserting that contrary to popular belief, Nigerian rap is thriving and vibrant. Ice Prince emphatically stated that no one should feed him ‘nonsense.’

Highlighting the vitality of the hip-hop scene in Nigeria, Ice Prince listed some of his contemporaries who are actively contributing to the genre’s vitality. He mentioned artists like Phyno, Blaqbonez, Erigga, Olamide, Zlatan, Falz, and others as key players keeping the hip-hop game alive.

He wrote, “OLAMIDE, ODUMODU BLACK , LADIPOE , BLAQBONES , SDC , PHYNO, REMINISCE, MI , DJ ABBA, ZLATAN, FALZ, VECTOR, CDQ, KESH, ERIGGA, YP, JERIQ, AJEBO, CLASSIQ, DREMO, ABSTRACT, DIZZY, SKAA , LAIME , ZILLA, BANKZ, Mr Shalli Shalli…… Nigerian Rap is up up up don’t tell me nonsense !!”

In other news, Zoro Swagbag has expressed his disagreement with Wizkid’s assertion that “rap is dead.”

Recall, Wizkid made this comment during an interview with 10 magazine, arguing in favor of Afrobeats dominating the industry.

In response, Zoro stated that, while he appreciated the message Wizkid was trying to convey, he believed the way it was presented was wrong. Zoro noted that Wizkid’s comment about rap being dead due to artists using similar beats and styles received backlash from Nigerian rap artists, some of whom responded online or released diss tracks.

During an interview with Tacha on Cool FM Nigeria, Zoro highlighted that Wizkid’s disclaimer, stating he wasn’t referring to Nigerian rappers, didn’t change anything because, in Zoro’s view, rappers share similarities regardless of their nationality.
