Bellingham criticizes the “joke” decision as Dortmund loses to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Jude Bellingham believed Chelsea’s retaken penalty in the win against Borussia Dortmund was a ‘joke’ following a tough night in the Champions League for the young star.
The Blues defeated the German team 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to advance to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory overall.
The home team took the lead thanks to a goal from Raheem Sterling, but there was a dispute over the second score, which was ultimately scored by Kai Havertz from the penalty spot.
As Ben Chilwell slammed a cross into Marius Wolf from close range, the first ruling against him for handball was harsh, but VAR assisted in awarding the penalty.
Salih Ozcan cleared the rebound after Havertz’s shot hit the post, but replays showed that the Dortmund midfielder had intruded.

As a result, Chelsea was allowed another chance, and Havertz scored on his second attempt.
During the game, Bellingham observed both judgments and disagreed with both of them. He was especially perplexed by the choice to allow Chelsea to retake the penalty kick.
‘It’s a yard or two away, I’m not too sure. I don’t want to get in trouble, I’ve paid enough to them lot,’ Bellingham told BT Sport after seeing the handball call.
‘I think that in itself was disappointing and the fact that they’ve had a retake, I think it’s a joke.
‘For every penalty, especially when he has such a slow run up, there’s going to be people encroaching into the box by a yard or so.
‘But that’s the game I suppose, he’s made the decision and we’ve had to live with it.’
Bellingham had a rough night since he missed a wonderful opportunity to score and displayed his annoyance by getting booked late in the game for a strong and reckless challenge on Reece James.
