Tennis star Naomi Osaka announces pregnancy.
Former world number one and four-time major champion Naomi Osaka has revealed she is pregnant and indicated she will miss the 2023 tennis season.
Osaka, who has won the Australian Open twice, just announced her withdrawal from the upcoming tournament.
Osaka has only competed in 11 tournaments in 2022 and hasn’t played a full match since losing in the first round of the US Open.
She had also informed reporters the sport was no longer bringing her joy following a third-round exit at the 2021 US Open.
On the 11th of January 2023, Osaka took to her social media page to announce her pregnancy, including a picture of an ultrasound.
She wrote:
“The past few years have been interesting, to say the least, but I find that it’s the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun,”
“These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to. I realize that life is so short, and I don’t take any moments for granted. Every day is a new blessing and adventure.”
“I know that I have so much I look forward to in the future; one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom,’ haha. 2023 will be a year,” That’ll be full of lessons for me and I hope I’ll see you guys in the start of the next one because I’ll be at AUS 2024. Love you all infinitely.”
