Robert Lewandowski speaks out after costly penalty miss at World Cup.
In his World Cup debut on Tuesday, Robert Lewandowski said he hoped to get over the missed penalty that cost Poland the victory over Mexico.
At Stadium 974 in Qatar, Poland and Mexico battled to a scoreless draw despite neither team creating many quality chances.
The biggest opportunity for the European team came early in the second half when captain Lewandowski drew a penalty but was denied by experienced goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa with a fine stop.
It means that despite being regarded as one of the top attackers in the world right now, the Barcelona star has yet to score at a World Cup finals.
The performance of the entire Poland team was criticised following the game, especially for their inability to get the best out of star players like Lewandowski.
Speaking to goal.pl, the 34-year-old said: ‘It was just the decision to shoot hard on the ground.

‘I missed and it hurts for sure, but we look at this draw with faith and optimism before the next meeting. It will be up to us how this meeting will go. Of course, it’s hard for a striker to run in his own half, but of course there are certain assumptions that the coach gives.
‘But even with this tactic, when we get the ball back, some spaces open up and it would be good for us to take advantage of that. I can wish I could get the ball in the box, but it’s hard to achieve and I have to accept the way we play.
‘All in all, it was a fair draw. We can take it calmly and focus on the next game. We have a draw, nothing has been lost yet, and that’s what we need to focus on. I have some belief that from now on it will be easier for us to play. That we will enter this tournament with more freedom and above all with more confidence.’
