Zlatan Ibile gives Olamide credit for career breakthrough
Nigerian rapper Zlatan recounted the pivotal role played by Olamide, the head of YBNL, in shaping his music career during an interview with popular Nigerian YouTuber Korty EO on Thursday, December 28.
Zlatan shared the story of how he sought Olamide’s collaboration by consistently reaching out to him on Snapchat and sending persistent messages.
Despite facing challenges in aligning their schedules for meetings, Zlatan’s determination ultimately paid off when Olamide agreed to provide a verse.
The Zanku hitmaker expressed that the experience was life-changing, and initially, he had expected to rap alongside Olamide. However, the YBNL boss had a different plan, recognizing what it takes to capture the attention of Nigerians and become a big star.
Zlatan revealed that, after recording Olamide’s verse, his fortunes took a turn for the better. The impact was significant when Davido danced to the song and reached out for a collaboration, marking a crucial moment in Zlatan’s career.
He said, “Olamide giving me a verse at that time was life-changing for me. I was always tracking him and begging him in the DM for a verse. He gave me appointments twice but they didn’t materialise until the third time.
He invited me to his house and because I was doing more rap, I thought we would be doing a rap song, then all of a sudden, Olamide started singing an Afrobeats song, ‘My Body.’ He did that because he knew it was what would make me an instant star. I recorded my verse and that was how my story changed.”
Following the collaboration with Olamide, Zlatan Ibile’s trajectory continued to ascend when Burna Boy’s team reached out to him for a song. This transformation from a SoundCloud connection to collaborations with top artists like Burna Boy emphasizes the significant influence and support that established figures in the music industry, such as Olamide, can have on emerging talents.
The unfolding of Zlatan’s journey underscores the impact of mentorship and collaboration in shaping the careers of rising stars in the music scene.
