I don’t mean to be petty – Zlatan Ibile calls out online beggars and trolls

Popular Nigerian singer Zlatan has voiced his concerns about the growing trend of online begging, particularly among social media users who solicit giveaways from celebrities while simultaneously trolling them.
Speaking as a guest on The Drive-Time Show, Zlatan addressed various topics, including his latest music project. During the discussion, he expressed frustration over the behavior of certain individuals who spend their entire day on social media, moving from one celebrity’s page to another in search of financial handouts.
“I don’t mean to be petty but I know how people move on the internet. It’s like these people are just there from morning till night and they are under your activities wanting giveaways.
I don’t know the reason but they always want. Just this afternoon I was just thinking to myself if these people are just online jumping from one celebrity to the other. I can’t talk too much sha before they remind me that I was once there,” he said.
Zlatan further explained that while he believes in supporting those in need, he prefers to assist individuals who demonstrate hard work rather than distributing money randomly. He recalled a time when he deliberately sought out hardworking people to support.
“One particular day I was wondering how to help but I didn’t want to give random people money. So I went through people tweeting about their jobs and if I see that you say you’re a tailor but there’s nothing on your page about it, you must have posted about your services.”

However, his generosity has its limits. The singer recounted a situation where he discovered that a woman seeking financial aid had previously trolled him online, leading him to disqualify her from receiving assistance.
“There was this lady so I checked her page and searched my name only to see that she has said something about me in 2020. People were telling me to forgive her, and it’s easy for people to say but me I have the money to give to someone else.”
Zlatan’s remarks have sparked discussions among fans and social media users, with some supporting his stance while others argue that past mistakes should not prevent someone from receiving help.
Regardless, the singer remains firm in his belief that genuine effort and hard work should be recognized and rewarded.
