After a performance critique at SAMA 30 sparked a fan controversy, Zakes Bantwini apologised to DJ Cleo.
South African singer, record producer, and businessman Zakes Bantwini has publicly apologized to DJ Cleo following criticism over Cleo’s song selection at the 30th South African Music Awards (SAMA 30). Initially, Bantwini praised the overall event and commended Cleo’s mix but expressed disappointment over the lack of Durban-Kwaito tracks in Cleo’s set.
In response, DJ Cleo took to Twitter, addressing Bantwini directly: “My brother, I love you and have always supported you. I’ve never spoken negatively about you. You have my contact, and you know the SAMAs are highly political. Let’s set an example for the youth and avoid using social media for such issues.”
Bantwini acknowledged Cleo’s response, apologizing with, “I’m sorry if my earlier tweet caused any offense. My comment stemmed from my passion for music, and you’re right I should have reached out privately. Please accept my sincere apology.”
The exchange quickly went viral, sparking conversations among fans who shared their opinions on the interaction and the broader role of the SAMAs in representing different music genres.
I apologize if my previous tweet offended you. My comment was driven by my passion for music. You are right; I should have reached out directly. Please accept my sincere apology. 🙏🏿 https://t.co/2lM6O420l1
